I was taught that these were called “Willy Willy’s”… in that they are like a four hundredths of five eights of 6 tenths of a tornado. Basically a swirling wind… but this one did look pretty swirling away on the sand dune. Of course, I missed the really good shot… while I was fumbling for the camera and caught it as it was dying off…

Now, this photo illustrates the limitations of the tiny little IXUS. No super wide angle lens, so left with photo stitch. When you don’t pay the best attention on taking the shots, the angles of your stitch change and you are left with a whole heap of the blur tool in photoshop.
Despite not being happy with the post-production work I did to stitch these two shots together, I decided to still post it up – purely as the sunset was spectacular and the clouds provided quite a dramatic sky.

This shot is directly linked to the recent shot of the main beach at Port Douglas. This photograph features the creator of all those little sandy balls, Mr Ghost Crab.
While a massive fan of the beach, I am lucky enough to be able to say that I’ve never had crabs. More than happy to photograph some crustaceans though.

I recently was lucky enough to travel to Port Douglas and was able to take a couple of nice shots while I was there.. so there will be more to come over the next few days. This is a shot taken at ground level, experimenting with depth of field.

All the little balls are the work of the Ghost Crabs that inhabited the beach – a macro of them to come…
